Maemo 5 app UIs: {The,A} big picture

Sooner or later it will be necessary to create a QML UI for gPodder if it is to integrate nicely with devices on which Qt is the “native” toolkit for third party apps. At the moment, the reusable UI elements that can be used with QML (Qt Components) have not yet been officially released (the Git repository is available on Gitorious , though), and there are no UI style guidelines for Harmattan out (yet?)

100 Boxes v. 0.8.0-4 with (working!) locale support in Extras-testing

As you may know from my previous post , in latest 100 Boxes version I added localization support with English and Italian versions. But a strange fact occurred: when building the .deb packages with my machine (Ubuntu 10.04 + latest Maemo SDK), the language files were included, but when using the maemo.org to Autobuilder the build process went OK but the language files were missing.

Unfortunately, I noticed the problem only after 100 Boxes 0.8.0 had reached Maemo Extras repository, so everybody is still downloading an English-only 100 Boxes.

It was the Dawn of the 3rd Age…

…and not only is the Shadow War over but it looks like we will have a community OBS thanks to the team formerly known as maemo.org infrastructure :) I’m really excited as I see this as a way for the Maemo and Moblin development communities to transition smoothly into a MeeGo future; we should eventually be able to offer an easy way to build applications for Fremantle, Harmattan, MeeGo and future device OSes too. So what’s happened? A while ago the RWG proposal was begun and we’ve been pushing it ever since

N900 tips & tricks: Where can you find 3rd party apps?

If you have been reading my Nokia N900 posts, then you may be wondering how I am getting all of these additional applications on the N900 since the Ovi Store is not yet open for business. If you have used one of the older Maemo Nseries Internet Tablets then you are familiar with using the Application Manager to access repositories.
