Here’s another post that for some people is obvious, but there are other (e.g. high level managers) that might not necessarily see the importance of Linux, in fact, I have been surprised by many open source developers who don’t seem to be familiar with how Linux works (they think it’s just something that works?). The fact of the matter is that Linux is light years ahead of any other software project, open or closed, I’ll try to explain why.

Mozilla announced a beta release of the Firefox 4 for Mobile (“Fennec”) web browser, initially supporting Android and Maemo Linux (Nokia N900). The Firefox 4 Beta for Mobile aims to increase performance, adding a new “Layers” technology claimed to streamline scrolling, zooming and animations, but an early review says it still needs to get faster.

Maemo Linux users left in dust Users who have bought Nokia’s flagship smartphone, the Maemo-based N900, won’t be able to upgrade the device to MeeGo, Nokia said in a blog post. The MeeGo OS, merges Intel’s Moblin and Nokia’s Maemo Linux-based operating systems.

At MWC 2010 we bumped into folks behind Rightware Kanzi — a cross platform 3D UI platform. Here is a video of the UI in action on a Nokia N900 running on the Maemo platform. There is even gesture detection using the front video calling camera
