15 Screenshots From The Leaked Nokia N9 Teaser Reveal A Few Details

We are just 5 days away from the start of the second MeeGo Conference and a very interesting video has just popped up, a promo for Nokia’s first MeeGo device, the N9. The video is nothing more than a teaser, but does manage to reveal a bunch details about the device which may even be called the N950. The only problem is that the OS the phone is running looks a lot like upcoming Symbian releases, right down to the icons, so may be the teaser that Pocket Now has scooped was a work in progress, with the MeeGo parts to be placed in later

As part of the lead-up to the Q3-2010 Maemo Community Council election , I am holding a Q&A with the 10 candidates.  There is a wide range of candidates again this time, making the vote difficult, at least for me.  I am hoping that the Q&A will help the community decide which candidates are best to represent our community.

Sygic releases Mobile Maps 10 for the Nokia N900

I previously wrote up my first impressions of Sygic Mobile Maps 9 for the N900 and covered most of my thoughts in the 13 minute video. I found the application to be decent, but could not recommend it for EUR49.99 based on the fact that it kept jumping around the map, required too many button presses to navigate around, and did not seem to be quite ready for primetime

Front Page Nokia Qt SDK 1.0 released Nokia's Qt SDK – previously released as a cross-platform, multi-device integrated development environment – has now been properly released at v1.0: “The Nokia Qt SDK 1.0 is available starting today, and it offers a true cross-platform development environment allowing developers to create applications for both Symbian and Maemo devices. Installation is easy, as it only requires one installation package that downloads all of the Qt and Symbian/Maemo components that developers need using the same Qt Creator 2.0 as standard Qt SDKs for use on Windows, Linux and Mac (beta).

The Mobile ARMs Race

This particular article has been fermenting for a while, and it took some stimulating discussion during Akademy 2010 to kick it into publication. I’ve been curious about where the value-added bits will be for mobile device manufacturers in the near future, especially as smartphone technology is pushed down to a near entry-level . Soft stuff wants to be free Apple would like us to think it’s all about apps, but I partly disagree.  App revenue is only good for early adopters, the people who Gotta Have It Now.  Everyone else expects apps to be free.  The generation of my teenage sons has decided that if the product is intangible, they shouldn’t have to pay for it.  So yes apps can certainly generate money on first introduction but the long tail of revenue will ring largely hollow.
